Every good boater knows that teak is an incredible wood with unmatched durability, beauty, and functionality. Even though it requires little maintenance, the right maintenance can keep your teak beautiful and stronger for longer. By now you probably know why you should never use teak oils to protect your wood (and should instead opt for a protectant like Triton that creates a highly oil, water and UV repellent surface), but do you know how to clean your teak and to recover its natural golden color– without having to sand it?
If you love your teak’s natural hue and want to keep it as clean as possible for as long as possible, you’ll love DiTEC’s teak cleaning systems, Teak Clean and Teak Magic. Teak Clean and Teak Magic are both specially engineered to safely clean and restore teak decks and wood furniture to their beautiful, natural color. They’re also both safe and effective, non-toxic, organic and eco-friendly alternatives to using phosphoric acid or other caustic cleaners. So, what’s the difference?
Teak Clean
Teak Clean is a clear liquid, one-step cleaning product that can be applied to a dry surface with a pump sprayer or dabbed onto the surface with a medium-density polypropylene cleaning pad. It should be used for general teak maintenance and is ideal for use on wood, glass, plastic, rubber, silicon, fiberglass, and polymer surfaces, but it should not be used on or near aluminum, brass or soft and finished metals. Teak Clean should not be used in enclosed spaces.
Teak Magic
Teak Magic is a two-step cleaning system that comes in gel form. Teak Magic should be diluted, mixing one part Teak Magic with four parts fresh water and should be applied to a damp surface evenly with a foam brush or polypropylene scrub pad. Unlike Teak Clean, it can be used near finished metals (unlike Snappy Teak) and is ideal for large teak decks or smaller or enclosed areas because of its gel consistency.
When Should I Use Teak Magic vs Teak Clean?
Both Teak Clean and Teak Magic achieve the same beautiful results for your teak and are readily biodegradable, bleach-free, and safe for the waterways. Depending on your project, if your teak is very dirty and needs a deep cleaning, or if you’ll be working in sensitive or enclosed areas near finished metals you will want to opt for Teak Magic. If your teak only needs a light cleaning or light maintenance, one-step Teak Clean is our suggestion for your teak– just make sure you protect those metals!
